Breakthrough in Mercy: 2008 Honduras Missions Team Update
This past July, in our 16 th year of Honduras outreach, the 2008 Eagles’ Wings Honduras Missions Team was sent out with the powerful mandate of “Breakthrough in Mercy,” or, in Spanish, “Avanzando en Misericordia.” God spoke to us clearly in 2008 about moving throughout Honduras to spread the power of the Kingdom through acts of mercy – in the restoring work and supernatural witness of the Holy Spirit.
The 2008 missions team, somewhat unexpectedly, ventured into new territory – the city of San Pedro Sula. In prior years, our ministry trips to this nation had been based out of the capital city, Tegucigalpa. However, a few weeks prior to the team’s departure for the 2008 trip, the Tegucigalpa airport was closed for repairs – and the Lord soon afterwards connected us with some dynamic ministries in the city of San Pedro Sula.
Through a connection from our friends at the Foursquare Missions Department, we were able to minister with teams both from La Cosecha (Harvest International Church) – one the of the largest churches in Latin America, led by Pastor Misael Argeñal with attendance of 20,000 – and also from the sister Foursquare church Iglesia Medina, pastured by Foursquare national coordinator Pastor Gilberto Mejia.
Once our team arrived in Honduras, we ministered throughout the region over the next 11 days, partnering with five churches planted in the area surrounding San Pedro Sula, and strengthening the work they are pioneering in the region. We brought the hope of the Gospel to adults and children in squatter villages, orphanages, open air plazas, and from house to house – ministering in music, drama, sharing the Gospel, and praying for healing. We witnessed several powerful healings and many lives being touched through our team. (See the testimonies section)
Thanks to the generosity of our Impact Destiny Family, our 2008 missions team handed out 144 “Family Blessing Kits” to needy families. Coupled with hearts of compassion and the power of agreement in prayer, these care packages of essential everyday items such as toothbrushes, soap, clothing, a backpack, a first aid kit, and Spanish New Testament, brought the message of the love of God in a way nothing else could have.
As we ministered to the poor of San Pedro Sula, we saw very clearly that this year’s team was sent apostolically into new territory by the Lord for His specific purposes, bringing healing and restoration to the lives of Honduran families and greater unity to the Body of Christ.
We praise God for the opportunity that our teams have been given, to be a part of fulfilling a call to minister life as the early apostles did when they were sent out by Jesus:
“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Mt. 10:7-8).
